The Formula Sidecar Racing
Association ( UK ) Ltd was formed in 1985.
Formerly known as the Formula Sidecar Club, looking after the interests of the F2 Sidecar
class, it now covers ALL classes and is unique in being the only body that represents the road racing sidecar classes
to the governing bodies, and liases with motorcycle road race clubs and officials, on
behalf of riders.
Since its
formation the association has been instrumental in
forming the rules and technical regulations for the
latest sidecar classes.
It was the F.S.R.A. who set the precedent for European
countries to follow with the idea of forming their own
Associations. In 1998 this saw the formation of the
European Sidecar Racing Federation consisting of
representatives from each Association, uniting all
participating countries under one body, to represent,
promote and formulate one set of rules of sidecar
racing.
The FSRA is a registered Non Territorial Club to the
ACU, which allows us to give the members the facility
of being able to sign their racing licence application
form, and if required we are able to hold our own race
meetings. It is recognized as one of the key players
of the unique Festival of Sidecar event, held at
Mallory Park, Leicestershire each year.
In 2003 the
FSRA arranged the popular ACU/FSRA Super F2 Sidecar
Championship which brought together the top F2
competitors and the up and coming club teams, who were
recognized for their efforts in the F2 section.
The format for this series worked well and was
supported by a number of new teams. And will continue
for 2004.
The FSRA
is a democratic Association in which members are voted
annually to a Committee to actively represent Sidecar
Racing in a professional manner. All work undertaken
by the Chairman and Committee is on a voluntary basis.
It is therefore important that sidecar competitors
from each of the classes support this organization, in
addition the FSRA welcome any road racing sidecar
enthusiast to come and join.
Membership costs £15 for racing members and just £10
per year for supporters.
Newsletters are issued
to all members, informing them of any relevant information regarding technical alterations, etc. There is
also an excellent Annual Dinner/Dance and Trophy
Presentation held in November of each year, the only
club to hold such an event purely for sidecar racers
and their guests.
